Accelerators to Obtain Theranostic Radionuclides

Innovation in Focus: What Drives Our Lab
A group at the Institute of Radiopharmaceutical Cancer Research at the HZDR - Helmholtz Center Dresden Rossendorf - is studying how special reactors can be used to step up the production of radionuclides, which are urgently needed particularly in diagnosing and treating cancer and neurological conditions. In addition, novel radionuclides such as copper-64 and copper-67, which open up new possibilities in medicine, are to be produced, processed, recycled and manufactured in industrial quantities using particle accelerators. Together with industry players, the group wants to find ways of bringing these promising substances into practical applications and continue to develop the technologies and manufacturing processes.
