G-RADNEXT Workshop 2025: Bridging Industry and Research in Radiation Hardness
Caen, FranceMay 14, 2025

On May 14–15, 2025, the G-RADNEXT Workshop brought together key players from industry, research institutions, and irradiation facilities at GANIL in Caen, France, to exchange insights on radiation hardness testing. This annual event continues to establish itself as an essential platform for fostering innovation, collaboration, and knowledge transfer in the field of radiation-tolerant electronics.
The 2025 edition focused on emerging trends, industrial requirements, and novel qualification methods for electronic systems exposed to radiation. With the increasing relevance of these topics in sectors such as aerospace, semiconductors, and nuclear energy, the workshop successfully created a bridge between academic research and practical industry applications.
Highlights from the Program
One of the standout sessions was the “Landscape of Irradiation Facilities in Europe”, where Martina Bauer presented the accelerator infrastructure at GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt. She emphasized its critical role in radiation testing for aerospace technologies.
In parallel, Anna Anochin from Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB) showcased the capabilities of the Berlin cyclotron, underlining its flexibility for both industrial and scientific use cases. Her on-site engagement allowed participants to gain a deeper understanding of how this facility contributes to the European radiation testing landscape.
The agenda further included:
- A comprehensive overview of European irradiation facilities
- Industrial perspectives on current and future needs
- System-level testing methodologies and alternative qualification approaches
- A panel discussion on qualification strategies for wide bandgap power devices
- Keynotes by experts from NASA and the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory
The workshop concluded with a guided tour of the GANIL accelerator facility, offering attendees a behind-the-scenes look at one of Europe's leading irradiation centers.
A Collaborative Path Forward
The G-RADNEXT Workshop 2025 reinforced the necessity of strong cooperation between stakeholders to tackle the evolving challenges in radiation testing. The active participation of experts and decision-makers created a dynamic forum for shaping the future of radiation-hardened technologies.
