Stronger Together: European Collaboration for Breakthrough Radionuclides in Medicine
Dresden/ GermanyMay 14, 2025

We’re proud to share a milestone in European radiopharmaceutical research!
On May 15, 2025, our colleague Dr. Santiago Brühlmann from HZDR presented his work on scaling up the therapeutic radionuclide copper-67 to clinically relevant quantities using the TR-FLEX cyclotron at HZDR.
His presentation took place at the Workshop on Radionuclide Production and Medical Application (May 12–16) at the Norwegian Nuclear Research Centre, University of Oslo.
The workshop not only facilitated the exchange of scientific advancements but also sparked discussions on future collaborations within the successor program of the EU-funded PRISMAP project. PRISMAP plays a crucial role in providing Europe-wide access to high-purity, cutting-edge radionuclides for medical research and clinical applications.
In the Hi-Acts Tech-Lab “Accelerators to Obtain Theranostic Radionuclides”, researchers at HZDR’s Institute of Radiopharmaceutical Cancer Research are exploring how particle accelerators and specialized reactors can scale the production of novel radionuclides such as copper-64 and copper-67 to industrial levels. In partnership with industry players from the nukliD network, they are working to bring these promising substances into clinical practice and to further develop technologies and manufacturing processes.
