Women in 3D Printing: Networking and Exchange at DESY
Hamburg / Germany06/12/2025

As part of a recent networking event, numerous female experts and early-career scientists from the field of 3D printing and related technologies came together at the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron DESY campus.
The program began with an introduction to DESY’s activities in additive manufacturing and 3D printing, followed by an overview of the DIF initiative. Participants then enjoyed a campus tour and visited the Central Mechanical Workshop, guided by workshop head Katharina Bartsch.
The event concluded with an informal exchange over finger food and snacks. Alongside technical discussions on current developments in 3D printing, the participants engaged in lively conversations about personal experiences and challenges:
- How can women position themselves in traditionally male-dominated industries?
- What role do networks play in fostering diversity and equal opportunities?
- What are the expectations and wishes for future networking formats?
Hi-Acts is pleased to have supported this valuable initiative through financial backing.
Such networks make a vital contribution to promoting diversity and equal opportunities in science and technology. They provide spaces for exchange, mutual support, and shared learning — helping women to strengthen their visibility and impact in technical disciplines.
