Innovation in Focus: What Drives Our Lab
Development of new materials, technologies, and advances in medical diagnostics are key focus areas. However, a second major challenge lies in extracting the maximum value from the data generated. This is where another Hi-Acts Technology Lab at DESY (Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron DESY) comes in: it is developing new algorithms to enable optimal data analysis using machine learning. For example, these algorithms take photon statistics into account, compensating for the naturally lower photon density in smaller facilities to achieve improved results. This makes it possible to extract consistent outcomes even from low-quality data. The goal is to develop these new algorithms in direct collaboration with industry partners for real-world applications—and to transfer the technology from large synchrotron facilities to compact accelerator sources. Thanks to its expertise, the lab is also able to support industry partners in synchrotron measurements.
